Introduction
The youth are the future of this planet, that’s why, together with partner We Are Nature, we set up an extensive youth participation project for municipalities.
Our method
We believe that if you really want to involve young people in the subject of litter and plastic pollution, you need to actively involve them. Therefore, we have developed a program in which students work as researchers and advisors for their municipality.
This approach leads to a better understanding of the problems that face the city and we challenge the students to come up with concrete solutions. We execute on the best ideas. This is how we make an impact together!
A team of experts (marine ecologists, sociologists, expedition leaders, sailors) from The Ocean Movement that deals with marine pollution on a daily basis, is here for you.
We use images of the research we do on international sailing expeditions, to take the students on a journey into the state of the ‘plastic soup’: how did it get to this point? How big is the problem? What are the effects? What solutions are there already? The students are then invited to form teams and show how litter is created.
The students learn to set up a short research and carry out it in their own city. Based on these insights, they start to come up with solutions.
Our program is flexible. We offer a two-days or one day program, but can also organize a program as part of the school lessons. We’re happy to discuss possibilities that suit your schools schedule.
