Mariam Alvi

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt a close connection to the ocean and the freedom it represents. As a young girl, I looked up to Laura Dekker, who sailed around the world solo as a teenager. Around the same age, I became aware of the threat of climate change and started participating in climate activism. While studying International Studies (BA) and International Development Studies (MSc), I learned more about the structural sustainability challenges facing our ecosystems. I’ve since wanted to use my skills to help initiatives tackling these challenges make their work visible to a broader public. I’m therefore excited to support The Ocean Movement as Social Media Manager, raising awareness of the plastic pollution threatening our oceans and contributing to a more sustainable world!
